Assignment of classes to rooms allocated for instructional use is the responsibility of the University Scheduling Office, who will make classroom assignments in collaboration with appropriate department heads/chairs or their designees. |

Departmental Responsibility |
Department heads/chairs or their designees are responsible for submitting scheduling requests based upon the directives of the University Scheduling Office. Such scheduling requests are under the following constraints:
Except as authorized by the appropriate college dean or necessitated in order to meet resource requirements or student demand, all classes will be held as listed in the Class Schedule. It shall be the department’s responsibility to make the determination and notify the University Scheduling Office of the name and team teaching fraction for each instructor involved in teaching a section in the schedule. Instructor names are to be listed in the Class Schedule for all sections, except those where instructors have not yet been appointed. |

Lectures |
Lecture sections should be distributed throughout the day following the approved scheduling time patterns. A copy of the scheduling time patterns may be obtained from the University Scheduling Office. Saturday classes may be scheduled as needed. Lecture classes are not to be scheduled during the University Hour, Thursdays at 11:00 AM, without the prior approval of the Vice Provost for Academic Programs and Undergraduate Education. On Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, hour-and-one-half classes may not be scheduled to begin earlier than 4:00 PM due to facility limitations. A department may, however, begin hour-and-one-half classes at 3:00 PM on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays if it schedules two classes consecutively: one from 3:00 PM to 4:30 PM and the other from 4:40 PM to 6:00 PM. |

Activity classes should be scheduled throughout the day. Activity classes that meet continually for a two-hour period or longer may schedule one of the hours to meet during the University Hour, Thursdays at 11:00 AM, provided there is another section offered at some other time during the week. |
