Julian A. McPhee University Union

The Associated Students, Inc., is a separate corporate entity responsible for the administration and oversight of the Julian A. McPhee University Union- and ASI- funded programs and services.  The Lease Agreement between the Trustees and ASI sets forth the terms and conditions under which the auxiliary may operate as an auxiliary organization and designates lease rights to the Julian A. McPhee University Union.  The term University Union refers to both the facility and related programs.

The University Union is an important aspect of campus life at Cal Poly, providing facilities and programs for recreation, entertainment and information, as well as conference rooms and food service establishments.  The policy-recommending body for the University Union is the University Union Advisory Board, working through recommendations from ASI staff and approval by the University President or designee.

The purpose of the University Union program is to challenge each student, faculty member, staff member and alumnus to explore new ideas, experience new activities and continue development of his/her intellectual, physical, social, emotional and ethical well being. To this end, the University Union offers recreational, cultural and developmental programs as well as a community atmosphere in which students can learn and practice leadership and interpersonal skills. The University Union is a place where everyone can feel welcome and valued in a pleasant, warm and supportive environment.

[j1]Initially.  questions were raised about the UU Policy itself, with some thinking that reference should be made directing readers to such Policy.  Further, the question came up about who implements the UU Policy—the Exec. Director, or UU Director??  The consensus was to delete “...in the form of…”, and change the word  and” to  “or” as follows [see below].
