Risk Management

ASI, as required by the University, provides certain liability, property, accident, medical, and automobile coverage for recognized ASI and University Union (UU) programs. If an ASI or UU program is allocated financial resources, personnel, or facility space, it is considered a recognized program and therefore insured.  Some club events are considered official ASI events, for insurance purposes. ASI provides certain liability, property, accident, medical and automobile coverage for these events.

Liability:  Covers official ASI sponsored events/activities held on and off campus and is in place to protect ASI and programs against third party claims for bodily injury, personal injury and property damage related to the operations and premises of ASI.

Property:  Provides coverage for repair and replacement of real and personal property owned and leased by ASI/UU.

Coverage does not protect the personal property of individuals being used on behalf of ASI.

Workers Compensation Insurance:  Provides coverage for employees and volunteer employees of ASI for injury and disease sustained while serving in their official capacity.

Automobile Insurance:  Liability insurance is in effect for students and ASI staff driving privately owned vehicles on ASI/UU recognized trips, activities and/or business.  Uninsured or unlicensed drivers are not permitted to drive on official ASI/UU business or during ASI/UU sponsored events.  ASI does not have physical damage coverage for damage to personal vehicles that occurs while being used for ASI/UU trips, activities and/or business.

The University requires that ASI has the four types of coverage listed above in place.  ASI is required to name the University as an additional insured on these policies and to provide copies of the policies to the University on an annual basis.

Accident Insurance:  In most cases ASI/UU does not provide any accident or medical coverage for individual program participants.  Individuals are strongly encouraged to purchase personal policies to provide coverage in the case of an accident requiring medical attention.  Accident and medical insurance would provide coverage for individuals injured while participating in an ASI/UU activity.  Individual accident/medical policies are at times purchased for specific activities programs.
