CHAPTER EIGHT

AUXILIARY ORGANIZATIONS – ASSOCIATED STUDENTS, INC.

800

Administrative Organization of the Associated Students, Inc.

The Education Code provides for the establishment of student activities and student organizations under the direction of the Board of Trustees.  Operations are carried out under the direction of the ASI Board of Directors, elected Officers, and established management structure.  All operations are conducted in conformity with regulations established by the Board of Trustees and University administration.

The Associated Students, Inc. (ASI), is a corporate, legal entity responsible for the administration and oversight of University Union and ASI funded programs and services.  The Lease Agreement between the Trustees and ASI sets forth the terms and conditions under which the auxiliary may operate as an auxiliary organization and designates lease rights to the Julian A. McPhee University Union.

The president of each campus is responsible for the educational effectiveness, academic excellence, and general welfare of the campus, over which he presides.  As stated, auxiliary organizations operate as an integral part of the overall campus program.  Therefore, for the president to exercise his responsibility over the entire campus program, he/she shall require that auxiliary organizations operate in conformity with policy of the Board of Trustees and the campus.  The California Education Code offers a guiding principle regarding the relationship of a campus to its auxiliaries.  In the case of an auxiliary organization primarily serving a single campus of the California State University, the president of that state university shall be responsible for ascertaining that all expenditures are in accordance with policies of the trustees, the propriety of all expenditures, and the integrity of the financial reporting, made by the auxiliary organizations.  The university president has delegated responsibility for oversight to the Vice President for Student Affairs; oversight of fiscal compliance has been delegated to the Vice President for Administration and Finance.
